Phnom Penh Day 157: Killing Fields

Una de les raons per les que disfruto de viatjar (fora del fet que m'ho estic passant genial), es conèixer part de l'història d'un altre país, coses que ni sabia que havien passat. Aquest ha sigut el cas amb el genocidi de 3 milions de persones que hi va haver a entre el 1975 i 1979 en mans del general Pol Pot!!! Un 25% de la població va morir a les seves mans per raons com tenir carreres o portar ulleres!! Per estalviar diners ja que les bales eren massa cares, els apallissaven fins matar-los i als nens els agafaven dels peus i mataven a cops contra un arbre!! Ja us dic que se m'ha remogut l'estomac tot el dia, pero m'he sentit orgullós de com el país ha tret la veritat a la llum per tirar endevant en contes de amagar-la i passar pàgina com si res hagués passat com s'ha fet a Espanya!! La memòria històrica es la única manera de assegurar que aquestes coses no tornin a passar (tot i que com deien al final de l'àudio guia, lo trist es que sabem que tornaran a passar!!!). En paraules d'aquest home es millor matar un innocent que que sobrevisqui un enemic, i cal matar els bebès perque aixi elimines l'ansia de venjança!!!! Primer hem visitat l'escola convertida en presó (S-21) i despres els camps on els mataven, la segona visita bàsicament es un camp amb una Stupa de recordatori pero l'àudio guia està mooooolt be i explica molt be el que va passar allà, com ho amagaven, la gent enterrada, testimonis, etc.

One of the main reasons that I enjoy traveling (apart from the fact that I'm having an amazing time), is to know part of the history of other countries that I had no idea about. This was the case with the genocide that took place in Cambodia between 1975-1979 that killed 3 million people in hands of general Pol Pot!! 25% of the population died in his hands only for having an education or wearing glasses!! To save money as bullets were too expensive, they beat them to death and got the babies from there feet and banged them against a tree!! I felt horrible during the whole day, but I felt proud of a country that can bring the truth outside in order to move on instead of pretending as if anything happened like in Spain!! Historic memory is the only way to prevent this things from happening again (though as they say at the end of the audio guide the said thin is that it probably will!!). In words of this man it is better to kill an innocent than to save a foe, and you have to kill the babies to eliminate the need of vengeance!! First we visited the school turned into prison (S-21) and then the killing fields, the second one is just a field with a memorial Stupa but the audio guide was soooooooo good and explains so well what happened, how they hid it, people buried, testimonials, etc.
